Editorial – Lisbon 2024
Before the Conference
The 17th International Conference on Arts and Cultural Management AIMAC 2024 shall be hosted by ISCTE University Institute of Lisbon, Portugal from June 24 to June 26, 2024. It will be supported by AUDAX the Center of Innovation and Entrepreneurship which will organize the AIMAC Conference.
Since the first edition in 1991, the AIMAC biennial conference has always provided a unique forum for reflecting on and defining the management of arts and culture today. AIMAC is the oldest and largest association dedicated to the management of arts and culture, and the first to have recognized the importance of professionalizing management in the expanding domain of culture. It was also a pioneer in demonstrating how other sectors could benefit from studying the iconic management laboratory of culture: whether marketing, human resources, strategy and business models, management control or organization of creative processes.
From this point of view, it is no coincidence that the next edition will take place in Lisbon. The attractiveness of the city, its setting and its unique cultural and heritage challenges will contribute to give the next edition of AIMAC a special shine.
Lisbon is the vibrant heart of a creative metropolitan hub where a web of artistic and historical treasures intertwines with cultural and scientific expertise, generating a unique atmosphere of innovation. This creative urban area thrives on networks and coordination systems that facilitate the exchange of ideas among inventive individuals, designers and entrepreneurs – all connected to this city’s distinctive geographical setting. By harnessing the power of its cultural heritage and embracing a forward-thinking mindset, Lisbon plays a pivotal role at the centre of this dynamic, enriching environment.
The 17th AIMAC Conference is driven by the idea that the cultural dimension is now a crucial protagonist in the process of creating value. Cultural productions and creative activities are increasingly important to all economies, so these events should be considered in decision-making processes focused on fostering economic growth.
ISCTE has various research and collaborative centres that link it with external environments. Audax, as ISCTE’s Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre, will organise the AIMAC Conference. The primary objective is to encourage stronger interdisciplinary connections between varied sectors by forging robust ties and facilitating effective communication and cooperation between private and public institutions. These organisations necessarily include those involved in policymaking and social initiatives. ISCTE has also been actively engaged since 2007 in collaborative projects, networks and partnerships around the world embracing a range of programs in Art Market, Cultural and Art Management and Managing Art and Cultural Heritage in Global Markets. The latter program is supported by the European Union’s Erasmus Mundus.
Through its commitment to internationalization, innovative research and education, ISCTE prepares its students for competitive careers and thoughtful lives in the 21st century.
ISCTE and AUDAX will be pleased to put their resources at your disposal and share their resources and enthusiasm to the success of the conference. They will be happy to welcome you in Lisbon in great numbers.
